It is the beginning of the school year. So far everything has gone great. We love our school. We love our teachers. We love our friends. But with the beginning of the school year comes the fund raisers.
Our school only has one official fund raiser. They bring the kids together and get them excited about different cheapy prizes they can earn by going door to door. I was not excited. In fact I hate it. I tried to talk the kids out of selling (except to me and grandparents)-how's that for school spirit?. Of course the kiddos wanted to participate anyway. Of course they wanted to go door to door. Actually they did a good job...but I hated it!
We decided to go to my parents' neighborhood. Mom walked around with us. I am grateful that she had a better attitude-she didn't complain. She didn't get shortness of breath and almost pass out between each house. Thanks to mom, Emily was able to earn the "lunch limo ride", Ryan and Andrew were able to win a mini-soccer ball each (they all hit their personal goals). I have already announced that next year we are NOT going door to door. We can go to Culver's night and other fun Fund Raiser Events and I will volunteer at school...but the wrapping paper is not happening.
Sorry for the bad attitude...

I hate the overpriced wrapping paper and the sub-par chocolates. I would gladly purchase books - really anything new would be so much better! How much wrapping paper does one family need?
I'm with ya on that. I HATE the fundraisers. I still have a roll of wrapping paper I bought from Joshua in Kindergarten 6 years ago.
Sounds like some weird kind of torture for parents... but Culver's night sounds like the kind of fundraiser I could really support! Let me know when that is, ok? ;-)
I HAAAAAAATE school fundraisers. You're a better mom than me. I always put my foot down about going door to door. Too much anxiety for me.
I think the school gets a tiny portion of the proceeds. I would much rather have something like a walk-a-thon where people can donate $2 or $3 and it all goes to the school!
I hate the door to door selling. The kids get so excited and think they can sell a bunch to get something you could buy for them at the dollar store. The other problem is that our principal has one fundraiser (Happenings Books) and then the PTA have one too. And it all comes after the first few weeks of school when you have to give class donations, buy school supplies, new school T-shirts, put money on their lunch accounts and then school pictures.
Our school is trying the walk-a-thon this spring. I hope it does well.
You guys all feel my pain and yes Julie our fund raising timing is exactly the same! Money is being thrown everywhere...
O I so agree on that Cathy. I would rather just write a donation check to the school and know they'd get all of the cash instead. I like the ones where the school gets all of the proceeds like the papa murphy coupon books or somemthing you might actually use too.
